Deliveroo today announced an expansion of its partnership with TOUCH Community Services, bringing onboard its restaurant partner, Chang Cheng Group, customers and riders to contribute to the elderly in need. From 16 October to 15 November 2019, Deliveroo customers will be able to buy a meal for elderly clients under TOUCH's Meals-On-Wheels (MOW) initiative by selecting a $5 meal option from the menus of three participating restaurants under Chang Cheng Group on Deliveroo. The three restaurants include CC Premium Bento, Rong Kee Roasted Delights and Ming Kitchen Seafood.
TOUCH's MOW programme is a meal delivery service which meets the elderly's daily dietary needs. The clients of MOW, most of whom live alone, are often unable to prepare their own meals and rely on TOUCH volunteers to deliver food every day. Since November 2018, Deliveroo has enjoyed a successful partnership with TOUCH with volunteer riders delivering approximately 520 meals to 50 beneficiaries in Boon Lay and Jurong West, as part of the firm's corporate social responsibility programme.
How it works
This new and expanded initiative will allow Deliveroo customers to donate a $5 meal from three of Chang Cheng Group's restaurant brands on the platform, with a total of 65 sites on Deliveroo islandwide.
Following which, Deliveroo will then compile the donated meals, and deliver them weekly to TOUCH's elderly clients in the western region across a one-month period. Based on the number of donations received from the public, Deliveroo and TOUCH will potentially expand the partnership to cover more zones in Singapore.
"Having seen the impact our riders had on the elderly clients, we wanted to do more and give back to the communities we operate in. As a company which delivers great-tasting food to the doorsteps of thousands each day, bringing our customers, restaurants and riders together to provide meals for those who need them the most, was a natural next step for us. We hope to mobilise Singaporeans across the island to buy a meal for the elderly the next time they check out their orders on Deliveroo, and join us as we band together to give back to those in need," said Siddharth Shanker, General Manager, Deliveroo Singapore.
"We are heartened that Deliveroo has come onboard with us again this year for such a special cause. Many of our elderly are homebound and are unable to prepare their own meals, and having regular Deliveroo riders sending tasty and comforting local food to them is a wonderful treat," said Sam Ngeow, Centre Manager, TOUCH Home Care.
"When Deliveroo first approached us, we felt this initiative was a great way to bridge our customers and the elderly beneficiaries of Meals-On-Wheels. We wanted to do our part to give back to the community and the partnership with Deliveroo and TOUCH Community Services is a great opportunity for us to make a difference," said Shaun Chan, Sales & Marketing Manager, Chang Cheng Group.
The first delivery to the elderly clients will commence on 19 November 2019 and run until 19 December 2019. Deliveroo will be assessing the initiative's success, to continue and potentially build on the partnership after its initial run.
To pay a meal forward, customers can make an order from CC Premium Bento, Rong Kee Roasted Delights, or Ming Kitchen Seafood.
